Swim, swim, SWIM!

I have never been a fan of exercising.
.
I detest jogging.
.
I detest getting sweaty.
.
I cringe at the thought of having to play sports during my school days.
.
Once (during my studying days in Melaka), my roomates ‘forced’ me to follow them jogging around campus grounds, at night. Night? Night? Are you serious? At night when I have already showered.. I don’t think so. But after some persuasion (and I didn’t want to be alone that day), I reluctantly followed them.
.
While they jogged, I walked slowly. Taking in the fresh night air, I felt somewhat proud of myself for making it out of the room. I had a compatriate, a fellow no-exercise friend who followed me. As we were walking, my friend saw the campus shop and we saw ice cream! What the heck, we bought the ice cream and ate happily while the others were busy running. So much for exercising. Haha.

That’s how much I detest exercising.
.
But all of that seemed to change (though I am STILL not a fan of jogging and running) when I enrolled in a swimming class 3 years ago.

To be honest, I never thought I could ever swim until I enrolled in the swimming class. For some reason, the swimming coach taught me in a child’s pool. It was quite embarassing because I was the only adult – others were kids but that’s okay, at least the water was not deep. (It was at my waist ha ha). But then, as time progressed, I found that I had a knack for swimming. I even went into the deep pool (it was 3 metres deep!) on my third class! Not bad for somebody who didn't think she could ever swim. 
.
So it became a weekly affair for my family and I (my parents and brothers enrolled in the class too – my brother was the one who enrolled us in). As time went by, everyone became busy and the swimming habit passed. The pool we usually went was infested with people. I really dislike swimming when there are a lot of people – no space! And the pool was getting dirtier by the day.

That was two years ago. And I have been struggling to find what kind of exercise that could help me put off weight. So I tried yoga (I love yoga by the way, very relaxing) but then again, I was too lazy to keep that up (I know, I am really BAD!). The turning point came when I watched the recent Olympic games. I loved how the swimmers swam, and I especially loved the butterfly stroke (can’t do that, they say it’s the hardest stroke). Plus, I knew I was leading a very unhealthy life.

Sleep, wake up, go to work, eat, sit in front of the computer, eat again, watch tv and sleep.
.
A recipe for disaster I might say.
.
Now, I have finally found a pool that I am really comfortable with. A bit pricey but I don’t mind paying for the comfort and cleanliness. Unless if they don’t allow guests anymore.. I don’t know where I’ll go!
.
Whenever I swim, I feel a sense of freedom. I feel free, like a mermaid. And I always feel a sense of accomplishment after finishing a lap!

I love how I can feel my blood rushing in my face and body, like an adrenaline rush.
.
I love the feeling of getting nearer to the end.
.
I love the freedom.
.
I love the feeling of water splashing against my body.
.
I love how I can feel the calories burning after swimming.
.
I love my posture looks like after swimming.
.
I love the excitement.
.
I love how I love my body and myself more after swimming.
.
Finally, I have found THE right form of exercise for me. Otherwise, I might go back to yoga. Or walking with an ice cream in my hand.
